Boris Yu is a Hong Kong-born multidisciplinary artist and designer living and working in Toronto/Tkaronto. His sculptural and furniture practice begins as a process of material research, tracing the outlines of affect, memory, and history to (re)tell narratives as a web of entangled meanings contained in vessels. Form and function become a terrain for intuitive crafting with the purpose of disrupting intended modes of interaction with an object. His ongoing series examines Daoist rituals and symbols as sites of lost familial history while questioning the gestures and materiality necessary to reclaim cultural narratives for the self.
